Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 28, 2026
Enqualia ("we", "us"), based in the Netherlands, operates Enqualia Books. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it. As a Netherlands-based company serving readers and authors worldwide, we apply GDPR-level protections to all users regardless of location.
1. What we collect
- Account data — name, email address, and authentication details, via Firebase Authentication (Google sign-in or email/password).
- Manuscript & worldbuilding data — the books, chapters, characters, and story graphs you create, stored in your private Firebase workspace.
- Payment data — purchases and subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number; Stripe shares back only what we need to fulfil and reconcile orders (amount, status, last 4 digits).
- Author payout details — if you sell books, the payout information you enter (account holder name and either an IBAN and optional BIC, a PayPal address, or other details you provide) is stored so we can pay your royalties. It is visible only to you and to Enqualia staff who process payouts, and is used for no other purpose. You can change or clear it at any time from your Sales page.
- Shipping data — for print-on-demand orders, the delivery address you provide is shared with our print partner, Lulu, solely to manufacture and ship your order.
- Usage data — basic product analytics (pages visited, feature usage, reading progress for subscribers) used to improve the platform and, for subscribers, to calculate author royalty pools. We also count AI requests per account to enforce fair-use limits and prevent abuse.
2. How we use AI processing
When you use an AI tool (proofreading, translation, brainstorming, image generation), only the text or content you explicitly submit is sent to the Enqualia Cloud Run service for processing. Your manuscript is never used to train AI models, and AI requests are processed and discarded — not retained by the model provider.
3. Third-party processors
We share the minimum data necessary with the following processors to operate the platform:
- Firebase / Google Cloud — authentication, database, file storage, and hosting.
- Stripe — payment processing for purchases, subscriptions, and author payouts.
- Lulu — print-on-demand manufacturing and shipping (receives shipping address for print orders only).
- Enqualia Cloud Run / Gemini — AI proofreading, translation, brainstorming, and image generation.
- Neo4j — indexes relationships within your own worldbuilding graph; no manuscript text is stored there.
4. Data retention
We keep your account and manuscript data for as long as your account is active. If you delete a book or close your account, we remove the associated content from active storage within a reasonable period, except where we're required to retain transaction records (e.g. for tax or fraud-prevention purposes).
5. Your rights
You can access, export, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. To request a copy of your data or deletion of your account, email support@enqualia.nl. We will respond within 30 days.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the platform evolves. We'll post the updated date at the top of this page.
